Pedals And Effects Song Dissection: Kashmir by Led Zeppelin

Pedals And Effects Song Dissection: Kashmir by Led Zeppelin

Today's Pedals And Effects Song Dissection is nothing short of legendary! Every single member of Led Zeppelin were innovators of their instrument, having blazed a trail for musicians to follow and cementing their legacy in the upper echelon of musical history. One thing we seldom talk about here at Pedals And Effects are effects on drum kits! And that is what today's Song Dissection is all about!

Pedals And Effects: Overdrive Wars

Pedals And Effects: Overdrive Wars

As if Fuzz Wars wasn’t enough, Pedals And Effects has decided to make a segment for overdrive pedals called, what else, "Overdrive Wars!"  I'm just flying solo in this installment, but it was nice to get out of my comfort zone with this sort of effect. This is the first time I have actually done a comparison of overdrives, I actually learned a few new things about overdrives during the making of this video.

Demo: Wood Cutter by Big Ear

Demo: Wood Cutter by Big Ear

I have owned several Rat distortions by ProCo including the famed ProCo Rat LM308 model, but I will tell you that Big Ear's Wood Cutter smokes them all. I always found the Rats to be bottomless and noisy, sometimes with no clarity, or unusable high mids for bass. If you have ever had a love for distortion but were never truly satisfied with your Rat, look no further.

Here we go with one of the heaviest pedals I've reviewed in a while! The Big Distortion Sound Machine by Devi Ever FX! What makes this pedal so over the top is the Big Distortion Sound Machine's ability to send one input to not one but two distortion circuits! Back in 2014, Big Sir embarked on a small European summer tour and I wanted to share 24 hours of events that make touring in a small situation, so valuable.   Even though there were not a lot of the typical touring stories that happened on that run, the small car travels have their own unique challenges and payoffs.

Demo: Last Gasp Art Laboratories Super Oscillo Fuzz & Gommorah

Years ago, there was some store in Sacramento (where fellow reviewer in this video, Nick Reinhart, hails from) that sold pedals and had the advantage of also providing audio clips. I bought a few winners, and a few losers from them, but the clear winner out of all my purchases from that store was the Last Gasp Art Laboratories Super Oscillo Fuzz!

Throwback Thursday: My First Van Halen Show

Throwback Thursday: My First Van Halen Show

Van Halen was a huge band in their day, and are still considered by many to be one of the greatest bands of all time. Their self titled debut was on every kid’s stereo when I was growing up; I remember staring at the album cover wondering where the brothers, guitarist Eddie and drummer Alex, were from. He was the first musician in my experience that made even scratching the strings sound musical and awesome.  I was an obsessed kid and wanted to know what I had to do to blaze a trail like Eddie did.

Demo: Pigtronix Quantum Time Modulator

Demo: Pigtronix Quantum Time Modulator

Pigtronix's Quantum Time Modulator is a vibrato, a chorus, and a wild time stretching effect that provides some pretty cool and useful sounds. Pigtronix was inspired by Frank Zappa's MicMix DynaFlanger sound, and although I am not too familiar with that specific unit I fully trust that Dave at Pigtronix managed to achieve that exact sound. Dave, and the crew at Pigtronix are all pedal wizards, and are constantly coming out with new pedals to change the effects game.
