Top Ten Pedals of 2019

As we make our way into the new decade, we here at Pedals and Effects wanted to take a look back at the pedals that really impressed us in 2019. The last few years have really shown us that we truly are in the golden age of effects pedals. Smaller pedal operations have been enough to shake up the industry with their output, and even get the titans of the industry to notice and do similar things. In the end we all benefit from innovation. So let’s take a look at what innovation brought us in 2019!

Chase Bliss: Mood

Chase Bliss: Mood

Day in, and day out, there are a lot of pedals that pass through 5Starr Sound Labs. Nick and I are fortunate enough to play a lot of new and interesting effects pedals. We’re in the golden age of effects pedals, and while for the most part, new pedals are improvements or innovations built on existing effects, every so often we get something completely new. The new Chase Bliss Mood, is exactly that, it’s new, it’s weird, we love it, and we think you will too.

Pedals and Effects: Dirt Pedals

Pedals and Effects: Dirt Pedals

Today on Pedals and Effects, we’re doing a dirt pedal shootout! We’ve been hella busy with our touring schedules, but we finally found the time to catch up with some new dirt/distortion pedals as well as ones we finally got around to checking out. We’ve got a great lineup today of Chase Bliss, JAM Pedals, Spiral Electric, and Death By Audio! It’s 2019, more and more dirt pedals are starting to have MIDI and expression options. Pedal Combo: Chase Bliss Audio’s Warped Vinyl and Walrus Audio’s Descent Reverb

I have been raving about The Warped Vinyl by Chase Bliss for some time now and I liked how shimmering the Walrus Audio Descent’s reverb gets which sparked an idea once I started playing through it.

Fun With Tremolos: Earthquaker Devices, Keeley, Dwarfcraft, Chase Bliss, Boss

Nick Reinhart got upset about calling our shootouts, "wars" so we have decided to call this pedal shootout episode, "Fun With Tremolos." Basically we took five tremolos and ran effected bass and guitar through them to see if we could demonstrate the key differences of all of them.

2016 Update: Warped Vinyl Vibrato/Chorus by Chase Bliss

Wanted to take an updated look at one of the more interesting Vibrato/Chorus pedals out there. Anyone that knows me knows that an integral part of my sound is a Vibrato pedal paired with a Fretless bass. Back in 2014 I had gotten the opportunity to demo the Warped Vinyl MK. I Vibrato from Chase Bliss. Chase Bliss has since updated the Warped Vinyl (MK.II) in 2015 and I wanted to revisit this very unique pedal.
