Pedals And Effects: Sub Octave Wars with Janek Gwizdala

Pedals And Effects has brought you a Sub Wars  before but these pedals, though similar, are mainly octave pedals so we dubbed this installment Sub Octave Wars!  Please be aware that the low end coming through your speakers may rattle your speakers off their stands!

Pedals And Effects 5: Matt Holl of Wren And Cuff

The Pedals And Effects 5, the builders series, continues with Matt Holl of Wren and Cuff. I met Matt Holl through a 2009/2010 email correspondence when I was investigating his Pickle Pie Hella Fuzz. I was weary of touring with my Sovtek fuzz and was looking for a suitable replacement. I hit up Matt and the rest as they say, is history.

Review: The Gjengangar by Pladask Elektrisk

Review: The Gjengangar by Pladask Elektrisk

Here we go with the hardest pedal to pronounce - it is the Gjengangar by Pladask Elektrisk! This is a delay with some cool features you don't always see on a delay pedal. The Gjengangar has a gate for the delay, a feedback looper and effect blender. It seems Pladask Elektrisk has thrown in a lot of thought in building a better beast and this delay comes with a whole lot of innovation.

Pedals And Effects 5: Brad Smith of Old Blood Noise Endeavors

The Pedals And Effects 5, the builders series, continues with Brady Smith of Old Blood Noise Endeavors! I met Brady when he was working at Walrus Audio and he and Seth McCarroll decided to break out and start their own "niche based" pedal company. Let’s just say playing the music wasn’t the only difficult aspect of the audition.

Fuzz Wars: Janek Gwizdala’s Favorite Fuzz Pedals

Fuzz Wars: Janek Gwizdala’s Favorite Fuzz Pedals

I met Janek Gwizdala backstage at my first Bass Player Live back in 2009. I performed as Vato Negro and was very intimidated to be in a room full of my peers.  I remember I was speaking to Bass Player Magazine editor, Chris Jisi, about Jaco Pastorious and Janek overheard me saying something about Jaco’s feel and groove, so he jumped in on the conversation with similar opinions to mine.  We quickly bonded and have been friends ever since.
