Fuzz Wars 2018

Fuzz Wars 2018

Nick is out on tour and I'm backed up with fuzz pedals! I decided to roll solo for this one, and shoot out some cool new fuzz pedals. On deck we got Dusky Electronics, AC Noises, Way Huge, and Spruce Effects. We haven't done one of these in a while, but I'm super stoked to see what's new in the fuzz world!

Rainger FX: Reverb-X

Rainger FX: Reverb-X

Mad scientist David Rainger of Rainger FX is consistently conjuring up crazy cool monstrosities in his laboratory. Whenever we catch wind of something new from Rainger FX, we do our best to keep our eyes peeled. Previously we've rocked their Dr. Freakenstein fuzz on Fuzz Wars and we got to play around with the incredibly unique Deep Space Pulsar side-chaining pedal too. We missed out on NAMM this past year because we were on tour, but we definitely weren't going to miss out on Rainger FX's newest pedal, the Reverb-X.

Red Panda: Tensor

Red Panda: Tensor

Pedals and Effects has nothing but love for Red Panda, we've featured just about every pedal they've put out! Kurt and the crew in Detroit are on the cutting edge and we always make a point to stop by when we're passing through on tour. So when we caught wind of something new brewing in the lab, we were super curious and we knew that whatever it was, it would be great. That time is now, and the next great Red Panda effects pedal is the sampling and time warping, Tensor.

The World's Strangest Weirdest Guitar with Spencer Seim

The World's Strangest Weirdest Guitar with Spencer Seim

If you're playing in a band that's as innovative and out there as Hella, you're going to need a guitar that's equally as crazy! Picking up where we left off last week with Spencer, we take a look at what might be the world's weirdest, strangest, guitar. Plenty of knobs, switches and even a built in egg shaker? Spencer takes us through his history with the instrument and more.

Interview: Spencer Seim from Hella and The Advantage

Interview: Spencer Seim from Hella and The Advantage

A long time ago, in what seems like another lifetime, I was fortunate to have met and toured a few weeks with Spencer Seim who was the guitarist and co-founder of the legendary Sacramento band, Hella. Spencer and the ripping Zach Hill on drums were one of the fiercest guitar/drum duos ever created. The duo had just turned their band from a two piece into a four piece and were opening a tour I was a part of, that was headlined by System Of A Down and Mars Volta.

Show Me Your Pedalboard: Craig

Show Me Your Pedalboard: Craig

Things have been busy here lately at the Pedals and Effects camp, I'm still out on tour and Nick just got back from a tour in Japan! I still get your emails with your pedalboards and I managed to grab time to take a look at some. Let's resume Show Me Your Pedalboard with this wonderful entry from Craig from New Zealand! We've actually featured Craig here before a few years ago, but he has since gone and made some revisions along with a few upgrades:

Beetronics: Octahive & Whoctahell

Beetronics: Octahive & Whoctahell

NAMM is definitely a whirlwind of a weekend, for us there isn't a whole lot of time to really dig into new stuff. We caught buzz of a few guys walking around the convention center in beekeeper outfits and were told by multiple people to check out their stuff. On the last day of NAMM 2017, we found out that these guys fresh from Brazil ran an effects pedal company called Beetronics.

Vintage: Electro-Harmonix Graphic Fuzz

Vintage: Electro-Harmonix Graphic Fuzz

At Pedals and Effects, we LOVE old school Electro-Harmonix pedals. The vintage Bass Microsynth is one of my all time favorites, I used it extensively on the Vato Negro records. I recently got a vintage Deluxe Memory Man, and big metal box is definitely the way to go with Electro-Harmonix. Jonathan over at Future Music (shouts out Highland Park) lent me this vintage Graphic Fuzz, Electro-Harmonix reissued these but I wanted to try out the real deal.
