Read MoreRarely, do I see an overdrive that really takes a totally different angle on the pedal’s tone. Usually, overdrives are designed to give you a grit or mild distortion to your sound. It is not as over the top as a distortion or fuzz pedals but it is designed to push the front end of your amp into a distortion.
Read MoreMaking its debut at this years winter NAMM, Pedals And Effects is comin' at ya with Earthquaker Device's latest offering, the Space Spiral Modulated delay! From vibrato, warm swells, tape breakup, and weird interval/octave harmonies, we've only begun to scratch the surface of what the Space Spiral is capable of!
Read MoreIt's been a while since we've done a Show Me Your Pedalboard feature! Don't worry, I haven't forgotten about you guys. I see all of the emails you guys send me of your boards, and I super appreciate how awesome you guys are. I will try my best to get back to you with my thoughts on your board. Anyhow, today's board comes from Rob from Chicago!
Read MorePedals And Effects is so lucky and incredibly honored to have a guy as passionate as Nick give us extensive demos of his favorite pedals! In today’s post, he shows us his Ibanez Echo Shifter! I love the look, functionality, and sound of the Echo Shifter, but the Ibanez reputation is what I can vouch for more than anything else. Ibanez has consistently made great gear over the years and their pedals have always been top notch!
Read MoreThere are times when it is clear why a pedal is the best there is in its category. This is the definite case of the A/DA (Analog/Digital Associates) Flanger. This effect is huge, dynamic over the top all the while remaining musical. But I have to say, I don’t hear a lot of flangers being used these days.
Read MoreThe Markbass Super Synth was a craigslist purchase I made after checking out fellow bassist Dennis Owens’ of Free Moral Agents use of his. He used it in a very musical and inspiring way but when I got mine and shot this video, I was clearly not inspired and so the result is a lukewarm review. What I should add is that just because I am not a fan of the Markbass Super Synth, does in no way mean I think it is bad pedal for all musicians. It did not move me but it moved Dennis, and it may move you.
Read MoreHey guys, Nick here, recently I had seen that Adam, from Satellite Amps, was getting into the pedal world. His amps are simple and super rock and roll. He hand builds 'em all and they come in all sorts of cool colors. His first pedal is basically one of his loud ass amps in a cool mid century-lookin' custom steel box. The casing is just a bit bigger than your average pedal and that's because it's got a dang 12AX7 tube in it!
Read MoreGodlyke’s Totally Wycked Audio has been creating amazing, in-a-class-of-its-own pedals for sometime. They put the work, time and research into their pedals and they won’t release an effect until it is mind blowing. Godlyke did this with the awesome Great Divide analog synth octave pedal and now they have come up with something just as revolutionary, the Little Dipper!
Read MoreToday’s Throwback Thursday is about taking advantage of second, or even third chances! It is festival season now with Coachella coming up, and that means a lot of us musicians are headed to airports, into vans or on trains. But either way, festivals are our best chance to see bands come through our towns. What happens a lot these days is that bands you thought would never perform together again, do, and we all get our chance to see a band we saw back in the day. Or even better, we get to see a band you never saw when they were active. For me, one band I never got to see was Drive Like Jehu, but in 2015, that day finally came!
Read MoreThere will be pedal builders and then there will be the ones who build sonic frontiers such as Mantic Effects. As I stated before, this is an exciting time for effects and to have access to inventors like Mantic during such a boom. These guys first hit me up on email and were so excited about what they were building, they would give me heat for not putting up videos of a pedal they sent me. Being an artist myself, I recognize that kind of enthusiasm for our creations and so I told the Mantic crew, I will do you justice.
